2026 rates
Since 1 July 2026, the rate depends on how the guest pays: by card, mobile wallet or QR, or in cash.
| Rule | Punjab (PRA) | Sindh (SRB) |
|---|---|---|
| Paid digitally | 8% | 8% |
| Paid in cash | 16% | 15% |
| Input tax at the 8% rate | Not allowed | Not allowed |
| Who must send every bill | Restaurants above Rs 6 million a year, and hotels and other services above Rs 10 million | Restaurants in a hotel or air-conditioned mall, franchises, restaurants with more than one branch in Sindh, or above Rs 5 million a year |
In Sindh, a restaurant can ask SRB for permission to charge 15% on card payments too and keep its input tax. A Sindh hotel's room charges are outside SRB's POS rules, but the restaurants inside it are not.
What changed
PRA's card rate rose from 5% to 8% on 1 July 2026, for restaurants and for every hotel. Guests notice a wrong rate on their bill.
Under PRA's July 2026 notification, banks and wallets take the tax out of card, QR and wallet payments before the money reaches you. Your bills need to match.
PRA's 2026 drive targets handwritten receipts, kitchen slips and pre-bills. Not issuing a tax invoice costs Rs 500,000 the first time and Rs 1 million each time after.
